Talk to an electrician, or ask for a free estimate

Not every call has to become a booking. Plenty of people ring to find out whether the thing worrying them is urgent or not, and that is a reasonable use of a phone call. If it is urgent, say so when you ring, because that changes the order rather than the price.

Ask for a written, itemized free estimate

Tell us what is happening, what the panel looks like if you can see it, and when you need the work done. The more of that we have before the visit, the closer the quote is to the final invoice.

What happens next

How a free estimate works, in four steps

  1. Get in touch

Call, or send the form if it is not urgent. Emergency calls are answered around the clock; anything else gets a callback the same working day. Tell us if something is sparking, hot or burnt, because that moves you up the list at no extra cost.

  2. Book the visit

We agree a window that suits you rather than a whole day. Emergencies are same-day, fault finding is usually next-day, and quotes for planned work such as a panel upgrade are normally within the week.

  3. Look at what is actually there

A licensed electrician opens the panel, reads the label and does the load calculation where the job needs one. You get told what the cause is before anything is priced, in plain words rather than code sections.

  4. Written quote, itemized

Parts, labour, the permit and the inspection each on their own line, so you can compare it against anyone else. Nothing starts until you have said yes to the scope in writing.

Questions before you get in touch

Emergency calls are answered around the clock. Anything sent through the form on a working day gets a reply the same day, and messages left overnight are answered the next morning. If you have not heard back, ring rather than wait, because it means the message did not arrive.
The address, a number we can reach you on, and a short description of what is going wrong. A photograph of the panel label is worth more than any description, because it tells us the service size and the panel brand in one go.
For planned work, yes, and it is written and itemized. Diagnostic work is different: finding an intermittent fault is skilled labour and is charged as such, which is why we quote the repair rather than the search. That charge is told to you before anyone attends.
For simple like-for-like work, often. For anything touching the panel or the incoming service, no, and anyone who does is guessing. The load calculation needs a visit, and a number given without one usually moves after the electrician arrives.
Not for a planned-work quote. A call-out to diagnose a fault carries a diagnostic charge, which is quoted before the visit and set against the repair if you go ahead with it.
Please do. A photograph of the panel with the cover on, plus whatever is happening, is usually enough for us to tell you whether it waits until morning.

Rang on a Tuesday expecting a sales pitch and got a set of questions instead. Turned out the panel was fine and we needed a subpanel, which was less than half what we had been quoted elsewhere.

Called at nine at night about a burning smell. Somebody picked up, told me which breaker to switch off while I waited, and had an electrician here inside the hour. That first instruction mattered more than the repair.

Sent the form on a Sunday, got a callback Monday morning and a written quote after the visit with the permit on its own line. Two other firms sent a single number with no breakdown.

They were straight about the diagnostic charge on the phone rather than letting me find it on the invoice. Traced a fault two other electricians had guessed at, and set the charge against the fix.
