Three quotes for an outlet can differ by a factor of five and all be honest, because they are quietly describing three different jobs: a device swap, a new outlet on an existing circuit, and a new circuit run from the panel.
Three jobs, one word
Swapping a device into an existing box is $90 to $200. Adding an outlet somewhere new on a circuit that already reaches is $150 to $350. Running a new circuit from the panel to serve it is $300 to $700.
Which one you need is decided by what the outlet is for. A convenience receptacle behind furniture is usually the first or second. Anything with a real load, a workshop tool or an appliance, wants its own circuit, and where the panel has no room for one, a subpanel is cheaper than a full service upgrade.
Volume changes the arithmetic more than anything else. Most of a single-outlet bill is the trip, so several in one visit come down to $75 to $150 each. If you have been collecting a list, that list is worth doing in one go, and if there is a room being worked on anyway, renovation wiring is cheaper again.
How it runs
Swap, spur or new circuit. This is the whole price difference and it takes minutes to establish rather than a guess over the phone.
Ground fault, arc fault or both, decided by location and load rather than by what is on the van.
We ask where the furniture and the appliances go. A perfect outlet behind a wardrobe is a wasted one.
Protection tested rather than assumed, and the panel labelled for anything new so the next person is not guessing.
Protection and placement
Kitchens, bathrooms, laundries, garages, basements and anything outdoors want ground fault protection. Bedrooms and living areas want arc fault protection. Some positions want both.
If an existing outlet is warm, discoloured or loose, that is not an installation question. A hot outlet is a connection failing and it wants looking at now rather than at the next convenient visit, and outlet and switch repair covers what that diagnosis involves.
Where the house has aluminum branch wiring, devices are a special case: they must be rated for it or pigtailed properly, and aluminum wiring replacement sets out why.

Explained why one quote was five times another. Turned out we only needed the cheap version.
Did the whole list in one visit and priced it as one visit rather than eleven.
Fitted the right protection for the room and actually tested it in front of me.
Asked where the bench was going before deciding where the outlets went.
